      The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 9 December 2019. The bill aims to give citizenship of India to refugees from 6 communities (Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Parsi) from Pakistan, Bangladesh. And Afghanistan. Many political parties are opposing this because the Muslim community is not included in these 6 communities.

How was the bill passed

The Rajya Sabha had 125 votes in favor and 99 votes in opposition. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced the bill in the Rajya Sabha after a debate of about 6 hours, to which Amit Shah gave answers related to the bill in the House.

Why did you need for Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019?

Opponents of the bill are calling this amendment as a violation of the Assam Accords of 1985, which was aimed at deporting citizens of all religions who came from Bangladesh after 1971, the BJP's Assam Alliance Council Bill in Assam. It is against the cultural and linguistic identity of the indigenous community people. Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti NGO and All Assam Students Union have also come out loud in protest against this bill.
